Verucchio was born in the Etruscan era and is certainly one of the most characteristic villages within the entire Romagnolo hinterland, seeing its true splendor during the Malatestiana era, when it became symbolically called the “cradle”.
The village is found just around the corner from Rimini and therefore allows you to easily reach the city whether you are looking to relax or to attend business meetings at the Rimini Fair.
In Verucchio you absolutely cannot miss the wonderful medieval historic centre, able to bring visitors back in time: here you can see one of the best preserved fortresses of the Malatestiana era, the Rock Fortress (or Malatestiana Fortress) that dominates the city from its position at the highest point.
This fabulous fortification, surviving centuries of history and restoration work, is still today completely open to visitors: in its numerous large rooms are showcases displaying, among other things, a vast collection of medieval armory.
History is the great protagonist that brings to life the streets of Verucchio, for example during the summer, when the Malatesta Festival completely transforms the appearance of the city, filling the historic centre with people in costumes attending a serious of appointments from knightly jousts to banquets and dinners of the court.
Especially famous is the Verucchio Festival, born from the artistic direction of Ludovico Einaudi and meeting place for lovers of the “sette note”; here you can relax to the sound of the best ethnic and youthful music.
Lovers of this tradition, in the end cannot miss the autumn Quatorg Fair (or Santacroce Fair), an event considered the pinnacle event of territorial wine and food tasting, that between food stands and the tasting of excellent local wine, you will be accompanied into the late evening, giving you a “true” taste of wonderful Romagna.
